The leading institute of Assam, North East Institute of Fashion Technology (NEIFT) organised a mega two day festival comprising of Fashion shows, Cultural program, Musical shows and Exhibitions of Handloom, Handicrafts, Jute and MSME sector of the North East Region- ‘CELEBRATING NORTH EAST’ at The most happening entertainment centre of the capital – DLF Place, Saket on 17th to 18th Dec ’2016.
The festival was supported by Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Textiles, Ministry of MSME, ARTFED, many PSUs and was being held in association with DLF Place.
The Inaugural Lamp was jointly lighted by Ajay Tamta, Minister of State for Textiles, Govt. of India, H. E. Mr. Jagdishwar Goburdhun, High Commissioner of Mauritius ,Sri Chandra Mohan Patowary, Minister of Industry & Commerce, Govt. of Assam, Sri Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, Member of Parliament, Sri Naba Sarania, Member of Parliament in the presence of many dignitaries. They were felicitated by NEIFT’s young and dapper CEO and the man behind the huge fest-Vikram Rai Medhi. The Two days featured Twelve fashion shows highlighting Handloom and Handicrafts Ensemble by talented designers from NER like Arita Kayshab, Pallavi Deka, Pranami Kalita, Barsha Phukan, Ayn Longkumer, Yura Mary, Robert Naorem, Jyoti Kashmiri, Nandini Protim, Jahnabi Swargiyari, Rinzing Choden and Achunbo Chawang and their ensembles were displayed by Twenty Eight International and Indian mega models with North East India’s well known faces from the modelling world.
Talented Musicians and Bands from the region like Retrosonic, Trouble Clef, Kelly Jorden, Edwin, Sparsh, Sushil, MC Saini, Lena, MAB etc created a musical journey at the venue. Popular Assamese Film Actor Tanvi Sarma also enthralled the audience with her Bihu performance on the inaugural day.
Sri Vikram Rai Medhi the man behind the show informed that the thirty number of stalls erected at DLF Place created a mini North East for cross section of the society of Delhi and created an element of positive awareness and curiosity of our region which will thereby also play a role in the development in the Tourism sector. It was indeed a herculean task to create and execute such a massive fest outside NER for which Vikram Rai Medhi and his energetic and committed team truly deserves all the laurels.
Noted designer Nandini Protim says, “ the dresses which i designed for the show are totally wearable and not just for showcasing. All the dresses are classy and sober which can be worked in any occasion. The theme of the collection were Red, Black, Golden and Grey. “
Another designer who received overwhelming response from the show says, “ The event gave her a platform to showcase her dresses at the national level and people have appreciated her creations and they are showing keen interest in the design and materials used in the dresses. It has indeed given a boost to her business and the people who are associated with it.
